What papadimitriou suggest would be enough for me day-one. Don’t even mind if there isn’t a “bypass” check-box. Just something to stop Twhirl sending retweets to Ping.fm

For me it doesn’t make sense for retweets to update my Facebook status and therefore I don’t want retweets to be sent to Ping.fm in the same way @replies aren’t. I originally raised this as a separate request but I guess the option I want could form part of this more general request.

I now see why there is confusion… I mistakenly ended the initial suggestion talkign about the format of ‘@replies’ when I meant to say ‘retweets’

Uservoice unfortunately does not have any facility for me to correct the mistake.

Alternative (more straightforward) suggestion. Conform to Twitter usage conventions and provide a configuration option to prevent anything starting with ‘RT’ or ‘Retweet’ (both case insensitive) from being sent to Ping.fm

Less than ideal as it doesn’t take in to account people that use none-standard conventions but does cater for the vast majority that do.

Hi thomasknoll. Could generation of a regular expression based on the user’s chosen retweet format not resolve this?

For example, the standard ‘RT %s: %t’ would cause Twhirl to consider anything starting with ‘RT @’ to be a retweet. Similarly, ‘%s said: ’%t’ would cause Twhirl to consider anything starting with ‘@ said:’ to be a retweet.

This does NOT seem to be working for me.

I am using 0.8.8f (downloaded as twhirl-0.8.8g.air) and I just clicked on the re-tweet icon and sent without altering the tweet at all.

The retweeted message correctly started with ‘RT @name’ but it still updated my Facebook status via Ping.fm
