This is an open request to Seesmic to continue development of twhirl. The Seesminc desktop application does not replace twhirl as it does not support Identi.ca, Status.net or FriendFeed. twhirl also offers a unique interface unlike any other microblogging application. Please continue to develop it and add your extra support for Facebook, Linkedin, Ping.fm, Foursquare and Google Buzz. Don't abandon a great application.

When I want to see my direct msgs received, Twhirl shows me a msg that says "error receiving direct msgs". I can see my tweets and my mentions but can't see my DMs.

Me too, since install. Can't find any reason why. Today: 24 Jan 2012. Just used Twicca on android (my favorite twitter app bar none) and had a dozen DMs stacked up. I've uninstalled/reinstalled, tinkered with settings. No idea what's wrong with this software.

When I choose bit.ly (with username and pwd), I never get the short url, twhirl get freezed or something

If going over the character limit on Twhirl, suggest or automatically publish the text on shortText or a similar service. http://www.shortText.com/ Truncated text will be tweeted with a link at the end so that the recipient can follow the link to read the rest of the text.

Bug with upgrade/install of 0.9.7. After install, I can no longer log into Twitter server. Screen name does not appear on Accounts tab (no screen names listed). Cannot add screen name to listing. Screen Name still listed on main twirl window.

That's not just on Win 7, the reason is not your OS, it is Twitter's API change of July 1st, 2011! The twhirl developer has to go dev.twitter.com and change the existing permissions of the application to "Read, Write and Access Direct Messages" – otherwise DMs are ot accessed!

Changing Icons [updated]

Because Twhirl can't be minimized in the dock on a mac, or be hidden by the dockless application, it would be great if we could at least change the Twhirl application icon (everything else in my dock is part of a theme and Twhirl stands out). I've tried using Candy Bar to do this, but it still reverts back to the old icon. Not sue why...
