the social software client

twhirl is a desktop client for social software such as Twitter, Friendfeed, identi.ca, or seesmic

I suggest you ...

Improve Twhirl Memory Usage

After about an hour of use twhirl tends to run in the 250K range of ram usage. I've seen it spike as high as almost 700K after being left running for half a day or so. The footprint of twhirl is nice for smaller screens of netbooks but the mem usage kills the system.

I am just coming back to Twhirl after about a year trying other clients but I forgot my password and as far as I can see there is no way to find out my forgotten password on Twhirl?

I've been using Twhirl as my sole Twitter client since I discovered it. But today I was doing some housecleaning and dicovered that Twhirl has a larger memory footprint that SQL Server on my system!! GOOD-BYE!!

I love the app, but I simply can't afford to continually run an app that uses 70-80K worth of Memory. I really would love to see this become a priority. Maybe its just Adobe AIR, but I have digsby hooked into 6 different services and it uses half the RAM.

        Restarting a fresh (running for 0h 3m):
        Virtual KB Curr = 309,704 Peak = 386,780
        Working Set KB Curr = 97,652 Peak = 130,776
        Page File KB Curr = 90,592 Peak = 121,368
        Private KB = 90,592
        Handles Count = 479

Clearly a large amount of resources are not released.

This continues to be a problem in v0.9, still no movement!

These are substantial resource usages (running for 24h 8m):
        Virtual KB Curr = 322,796 Peak = 416,904
        Working Set KB Curr = 98,236 Peak = 133,644
        Page File KB Curr = 102,336 Peak = 125,036
        Private KB = 102,336
        Handles Count = 832

i've seen my twhirl use about 200mb or ram, if it keeps being such a hog i might have to use something else. even though i do love twhirl. I have an older computer so this is a major drain on my system and well upgrading my computer is just not going to happen as of right now in this economy.

My Twhirl client (0.9) continuously uses > 90MB of RAM.

Thats greater than Skype, Digsby and Chrome combined!

It's much better than it was, but it's still taking 80mb or so. Nicer, but still needs to be optimized! Thanks guys!

twhirl chews up 300-400MB of RAM for me. Louis Gray is promising that this is an area of focus for tweetdeck and I would like to see twhirl similarly improve. This makes a big difference in usability IMO
