Space bar doesn't work when holding down the shift key

If I type the word "I," or if I insert a colon, or any character that ends a word that you need Shift for, it often will produce two spaces, which may be my own fault for holding the Shift key for too long, but regardless, I find this annoying and confusing, since you'd think that, for 140 characters, you wouldn't want an easy way to double spaces!

When holding down the SHIFT key and pressing the space bar, two spaces are created instead of one.
