  I now see why there is confusion... I mistakenly ended the initial suggestion talkign about the format of '@replies' when I meant to say 'retweets'

  Uservoice unfortunately does not have any facility for me to correct the mistake.

  Alternative (more straightforward) suggestion. Conform to Twitter usage conventions and provide a configuration option to prevent anything starting with 'RT' or 'Retweet' (both case insensitive) from being sent to Ping.fm

  Less than ideal as it doesn't take in to account people that use none-standard conventions but does cater for the vast majority that do.

  Hi thomasknoll. Could generation of a regular expression based on the user's chosen retweet format not resolve this?

  For example, the standard 'RT %s: %t' would cause Twhirl to consider anything starting with 'RT @' to be a retweet. Similarly, '%s said: '%t' would cause Twhirl to consider anything starting with '@<string without spaces> said:' to be a retweet.

  Hi zander, sorry. I missread the ticket. =( Since retweets are not an actual feature of twitter, and people can format them however they like, it will be very difficult to handle this exception automatically. A temporary fix would be to change your retweet syntax to '%s said: '%t'.

  This does NOT seem to be working for me.

  I am using 0.8.8f (downloaded as twhirl-0.8.8g.air) and I just clicked on the re-tweet icon and sent without altering the tweet at all.

  The retweeted message correctly started with 'RT @name' but it still updated my Facebook status via Ping.fm
